Probability.

Today in math class we did :

If we had to flip a coing there is a 50% chance that we will get heads or tails. A way we can simplify that is

Questions:

What is the probability of rolling a 60 with a standard die

*P( ) means the probability of the thing inside the brackets happening

the letters s.n.o.w are placed in a bag
a) what is P(w) when drawing 2 letter?
1:4 25% 1

There are 10 marbles 3 BLUE
1 GREEN
6 RED

a) p(red)

6:10 60%
10

P(red, blue , green)
- this is a certain event !

for your homework :

mountain are in a bag?
a PCN
B PC constanant
c letter
d Pc - number

Probability

Probability is the chance of an event happening.

Probability = favorable outcomes over possible outcomes.

It can be expressed as a ratio, a fraction, or a percent.
Outcome- Is one possible result of a probability experiment.

Favorable outcomes- Is a successful result of a probability experiment.

Check this out:

If you roll a die, the probability of you getting 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 is all the same.
They're all equal.

Numbers

Factor- is a number that goes into a number exactly. With no decimals or remainders.
eg. 2 is a factor of 6
2 goes into 6 exactly 3 times
2 is not a factor of 5 because 2 goes into 5 2.5 times

Find the factors of 14, 4, 12, 16, 17, 24, 41, 96
14-1, 2, 7, 14
Why put it like that? The number is 14, 1 goes into 14 14 times and 2 goes into 14 7 times. That is also how you check if it's right or not.... (1 x 14 = 14, 2 x 7= 14)
4- 1, 2, (2) 4
12- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
16- 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
17- 1, 17
24- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
41- 1, 41
96- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 32, 48, 96

Prime Numbers- are numbers with only 2 factors
These factors are 1 and itself
Composite Numbers- are numbers with more than 2 factors

Determine whether each number is prime or composite
....1....................9..............13...........28..........31.......41...........51
....^.................. ^............. ^............^............^.........^.............^
neither composite .....prime composite prime prime composite

Multiple- is the opposite of a factor
eg 10 is a multiple of 2
10 is a multiple of 5

The multiples of 4 are 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32............
Lowest Common Multiple- L.C.M.
the EG. to find the L.C.M. for 3 and 4

3- 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18
4-4, 8, 12, 16, 20

The least common multiple is 12.

Homework!!
Find all of the factors of 10, 18, 37
Determine which numbers are prime or composite 2, 11, 17, 27
Find the L.C.M. of 2 and 4, 3 and 5, and 6 and 7
