Why We Estimate

Why we estimate: The reasons why we estimate are

To get closer to an answer

To make a problem easier

And to know what to expect from a calculation

You have 1.36L of OJ and theres 4 people that you need to share it to. How much OJ does each person get?

One way to do it is you round the 1.36L to 1L. Then if you divide it by 4 it equals 0.25. Then if you get the .36 and divide it by 4 you get 0.9 and if you add that with the 0.25 you get 0.34L. So everyone will get 0.34L of OJ.

  1. Great job! i like how you explained the many different ways to get an answer for the OJ question. You had a nice picture of number lines. Maybe you could have put the answer to yesterday's homework and the different ways we got it to anyone who needed help? Either way, you did great!

  2. Good job Ryan. :) I think you should have made the font smaller, and explained things more a bit. And what Suzie said about what yesterday's homework was. But other than that, it was pretty good. ^__^

  3. Good job! I liked how you explained what we did today very clearly. I think you should have explained why you put a picture of a number line though, because you just put a picture:P. And I agree with Suzie, you should have put what we did with the homework from last class in today's class.

  5. Good job Ryan! I like how you made the font way biiger than the normal font for the "Why we estimate." I also liked the way you explained the problem about the orange juice situation. To improve your scribe maybe you can write about our homework that was assigned on Monday and what we talked about and how we figured out how to do it. Overall... good job ! :DDDDDD

I like the number line picture and how you explained the question about the orange juice, but your font is a little to big and you should play around with the colors and I agree with the other students that you should put the answers for the homework from yesterday...But other than that you did GREAT!!

  9. Good job! You gave a great explanation on what we did today! I liked how you changed the size of important words, but that was a bit too much. Next time you should also play around with the colors and font more. And for your reasons why we estimate, you could have put dashes or bullets beside them because you are listing them. Don't forget to LABEL your post. Please enjoy our comments. :)

  16. I think you did an okay job. I liked how you explained the reasons why we estimate. But when you were explaining the O.J. problem, you should have showed how you got the answer; by long division or by number line. Also, for your number line picture, it was as nice picture but what about? How does it help you find your answer? You should have used it as an explanation to you O.J. problem. Edit it on paint or another site where you can edit pictures. Never leave your blog with questions! Make sure you look over your work; punctuation, font size, and grammar. And also try to play around with colors, more.
